Chocolate Hummus Recipe
I am really trying to teach my kids about making better choices with their food and balancing good choices with the “not so good” ones. I LOVE this chocolate hummus recipe, because if you don’t tell them, your kids will totally think this is a dessert.
Asking yourself what do you eat with chocolate hummus? You can serve this up with some pretzels, graham crackers or apple slices for an awesome sweet snack or dessert. OMGeee those pretzels will totally satisfy that sweet/salty combo craving!
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE CHOCOLATE HUMMUS:
- 1 cup canned chick peas
- ½ cup chopped hazelnuts
- 4 tablespoon cocoa powder, unsweetened
- 4 tablespoon maple syrup
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon whole hazelnuts, optional, for topping
HOW TO MAKE DARK CHOCOLATE HUMMUS:
- Add all ingredients to a food processor and blend up.
- Serve with dipper of choice.
I loaded up the food processor with some traditional hummus ingredients (chick peas), and some sweet additions (cocoa powder, maple syrup).
HELPFUL TOOLS FOR MAKING THIS CHOCOLATE HUMMUS:
- prep bowls – premeasure ingredients to easily add when time to mix
- rubber scraper – easily scrape food out of bowl, long sturdy handle
This recipe is even so easy that your kiddos can help (if you don’t need to hide the ingredients from them). Prep the ingredients in some small bowls and then let them add and mix it all up.
Once it is all blended well place into a storage container for fridge or a serving bowl to devour! This can keep in the fridge for a few days, if it lasts that long.
Delish! Just the thing for appetizers with friends or a yummy snack for you and kids.

Yes! Hummus is made with chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, and they pack a fantastic amount of protein.
