    A Cuban Grilled Cheese sandwich that makes for a tasty lunch! You’ll love this grilled cheese with all the bold flavors of a Cuban sandwich.

    Ready for an easy sandwich recipe to add some flavor to your day? I love Cuban sandwiches, but wanted to make a simple sandwich that had fewer ingredients and still tasted amazing.

    So I made an amped-up grilled cheese that tastes just like a Cuban sandwich. It’s easy enough for a weekday lunch, yet tastes like a special sandwich from the deli. And the toppings… YUM.

    INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE A CUBAN GRILLED CHEESE:

    • 8 slices, hearty white bread
    • ½ cup, mayo, divided
    • ½ lb, sliced honey ham
    • 8 slices, swiss cheese
    • 1 cup, sliced dill pickles
    • 4 Tablespoons, yellow mustard

    DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING A CUBAN GRILLED CHEESE:

    1. Spread one side of each slice of bread with butter.
    2. Flip bread over. Top four slices of bread with a spread of mayo and a few slices each of ham and swiss cheese.
    3. Top with a few slices of dill pickles.
    4. Spread mayo and mustard on other four slices of bread (non-butter side).
    5. Grill sandwich on skillet for 3-5 minutes per side, or until outside is golden brown and cheese is melted.
    6. Slice and enjoy!

    I never skimp on the toppings.  Reach for the real mayo to dress the sandwich.  When it combines with the mustard for this grilled cheese, it makes a creamy, zesty flavor that invokes a classic Cuban sandwich. Plus, you can spread it on the outside of the sandwich for a perfectly crisp grilled cheese.

    Just a quick grill on the stove top until golden-brown and melty. The ham becomes caramelized and tastes divine. I always grab it when making a sandwich for my family. It’s slow-roasted for hours, and adds so much flavor.

    • This is a very heated debate these days. Honestly, it comes down to preference, but mayonnaise has a higher cooking temperature so you won’t burn your grilled cheese so easily. Butter brings a great flavor to a grilled cheese, but can burn your sandwich very easily.
