BLT Salad with Grilled Hotdogs
You guys know I love putting my own twist on a classic dish. I love thinking up creative ways to change up traditional recipes and serve them to friends and family. It’s so much fun!
Today, I’m taking the classic grilled hotdog and making it into a flavorful, vibrant salad.
What?! A salad?? YEP.
No boring salads here, especially when they’re the main entrée. I’m a big fan of chopped BLT salads (bacon, lettuce, and tomato, minus the bread), and I knew grilled hotdogs would be the star of this Hot Dog BLT Salad.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE A HOTDOG BLT SALAD:
- 4 hot dogs, grilled and chopped
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- ½ lb bacon, cooked and chopped
- 6 cups lettuce, chopped (rec butter lettuce)
- ¼ cup mayo

HOW TO MAKE A HOTDOG BLT SALAD:
- Lay out butter lettuce in a big bowl.
- Top with cherry tomato halves, chopped bacon, and chopped hot dogs.
- Mix up mayo and relish to make dressing, drizzle on salad.
- Top with fresh parsley if desired.
I love salads for summertime because they’re SO simple to make, and you can add grilled toppings for flavor and protein. A complete meal!
My plan was to make a huge, flavorful salad with classic mac & cheese on the side. I started with a big bowl of chopped butter lettuce and topped it with halved cherry tomatoes. Next comes the chopped bacon and grilled, chopped hotdogs. Be sure to save some grilled wieners for classic hotdogs!
Last, mix up equal parts mayo and relish for a hotdog-inspired dressing. Yum! Add chopped parsley if you’re feeling fancy, and you’re good to go!
Grill up those hotdogs and add a big salad– enjoy two flavorful ways to summer!
handy tools to easily make all your summer salads:
- salad bowl – conversation piece, large size, easy to clean
- lettuce knife – chop lettuce without browning, strip kale from the stem with a simple pull, cut baked goods with no sticking to the knife
FAQs
Can you eat hotdogs without cooking? Technically, hotdogs are fully cooked. However, you should definitely heat them thoroughly before eating in case of listeria that can grow on cured meats.
Can you put lettuce on a hotdog? Yes, you can shred lettuce, add some chopped tomatoes and bacon and have a BLT hotdog (just like my salad recipe)!
What is the healthiest hotdog you can eat? Hotdogs are considered “unhealthy” because of the nitrites they put in the meat to cure it. Choose uncured hotdogs and you are choosing the best option you can.
