Ingredients For Caprese Salad With Baby Spinach
Use heirloom cherry tomatoes both for their looks and variety of texture. They make such a pretty salad, right?!
And do not skimp on the balsamic glaze. You can buy it bottled or make it homemade, but it’s the finishing touch to this beautiful salad. The combo of salty proscuitto and sweet balsamic glaze? *Chef’s kiss*
- spinach leaves
- cherry tomatoes (heirloom variety looks best)
- mozzarella pearls (can also use slices of fresh mozzarella)
- fresh basil leaves
- salt
- pepper
- olive oil
- prosciutto
- balsamic glaze
Instructions
- Start by prep your produce. Wash spinach, basil, and cherry tomatoes.
- Roughly chop spinach leaves. Add to big salad bowl.
- Slice cherry tomatoes in halves, add to spinach.
- Drop in mozzarella pearls to salad bowl.
- Roll basil leaves into a pencil shape, then slice to make ribbons (see photo). Add basil to salad.
- Sprinkle in salt, pepper, and olive oil. Toss all the ingredients together.
- Place prosciutto in bunches around the salad bowl.
- Drizzle balsamic glaze over everything.
Substitutions
- Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes – although heirloom look beautiful and provide a greater variety of texture, you can totally use traditional cherry tomatoes or even slices of roma tomatoes
- Mozzarella Pearls – totally fine to use slices of fresh buffalo mozzarella or even shredded mozzarella cheese in a pinch
- Prosciutto – you can also use pancetta to get that salty flavor or skip this ingredient entirely if you want to keep it vegetarian
- Spinach– this salad would also be delicious with kale or arugula greens

- Vegan– skip the prosciutto and use vegan-friendly mozzarella cheese
- Deluxe – add shredded chicken, chick peas, or even quinoa for more protein
