Savory Monkey Bread Recipe
INGREDIENTS NEEDED:
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 6 large eggs
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper, divided
- 3 Tablespoons whole milk
- 2 cans biscuits, quartered, rec Grands Flakey Biscuits
- 6 Tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon “Everything But the Bagel” seasoning (or more to taste)
- 1 cup, shredded colby jack cheese
RECIPE TIPS:
- Grease bundt pan with cooking spray or butter for easy removal. You can use other shaped baking pans for this dish, just adjust cooking time based on thickness of bread mixture. For example, using a 8″ x 8″ baking pan would result in a shorter baking time.
- Try to avoid overcooking scrambled eggs, they will further cook in the oven. If they dry out in the skillet, add a splash of milk before incorporating into bread.
- If bread starts to brown too much on top, cover with foil until middle is baked through (heated to 190 degrees).
- If after baking, bread seems stuck in pan, run a butter knife gently around the edges of the pan to separate.
FAQ’S
Why do they call it monkey bread?
The origin of the term “monkey bread” comes from the pastry being a finger food: the consumer would pick apart the bread as a monkey would.
Does monkey bread need to be refrigerated?
Room-temperature storage is your best bet for maintaining freshness if you intend to eat the monkey bread within a couple of days. Store monkey bread in a plastic bag and out of direct sunlight. Now, this totally also depends on the ingredients that you use. Since this one has eggs, I would store it in the refrigerator.
Can you reheat monkey bread?
Monkey bread is definitely best enjoyed warm! To reheat, zap each portion in the microwave for about 15 seconds, or place the whole thing in a 170 degree F oven, covered tightly in foil, for about 20 minutes.

I would like to try your recipe. However, I don’t care for the Everything But the Bagel Seasoning. Any suggestions for a substitute?

Any variety of seasonings would do! I would try salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Hope this helps!
