This Turkey Veggie Chili is a healthier version of the classic comfort dish. Packed with seasoned ground turkey and vegetables, it’s a hearty meal that’s full of flavor.
Veggie Loaded Chili
Bowl after bowl this Turkey Veggie Chili will comfort you during the cold months! There is nothing easier to a hearty chili recipe than browning some meat, tossing in some veggies and seasonings, and walking away.
This Turkey Veggie Chili has enough flavor to wow the adults, yet isn’t too much for the kiddos to love it too! Everyone will be coming back for many helpings. Plus, with many delicious topping options you can have the kids “make their own dinner”!
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE TURKEY VEGGIE CHILI:
- 1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 lb. ground turkey
- 2 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon grill seasoning
- 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ onion, finely chopped (I use frozen, pre-chopped onions for convenience)
- 1 orange bell pepper, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1-10oz bag, frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, green beans, and corn)
- 1-14 oz can chopped tomatoes
- 1 can, tomato paste
- ½ cup, BBQ sauce
- 4 cups, chicken broth
- Toppings (optional): sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped cilantro, tortilla chips, guacamole
HOW TO MAKE TURKEY VEGGIE CHILI:
- Turn stovetop heat to med-low, and add olive oil and ground turkey to large soup pot.
- Sprinkle in seasonings and break up ground turkey into small pieces using large kitchen utensil.
- Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until turkey is turning from pink to white.
- Add all veggies and stir to combine.
- Add liquids and stir again.
- Bring to a boil, then cover pot and bring down to a simmer.
- Cook for at least 10 minutes or until veggies and turkey are cooked through, stirring occasionally. Note: if kept on low, turkey chili can simmer for an hour, developing even more flavor.
- Remove from heat and serve with toppings and crusty bread.
The stove top version of this is simply brown meat, add chopped veg and liquids and simmer away! If you would prefer, you can make this in the slow cooker or instant pot! Just head on down to the recipe card for those instructions!
To boost the flavor of your chili in the Instant Pot and Crock Pot, you can also brown the ground turkey in seasonings for a few minutes if your appliance has the sauté function. Cook for a few minutes, stirring, until turkey starts to brown, then add the rest of ingredients and cook as usual.

4. Set to cook for 20 minutes.
5. Cook, then quick release steam. Or slow release steam for 5-10 more minutes.
6. Turn off heat, give it a stir to combine ingredients.
7. Serve with toppings and crusty bread.
Slow Cooker Instructions:
1. Add ground turkey to slow cooker*
2. Sprinkle in seasonings and break up ground turkey into small pieces using large kitchen utensil. This is to ensure that all the turkey gets seasoned while cooking.
3. Add remaining ingredients to slow cooker.
4. Cook on high for 2-3 hours or low for 4-5 hours.
5. Turn off heat, give it a stir to combine ingredients.
6. Serve with toppings and crusty bread.
