I’ve been taking my daughter’s picture myself for a couple of years now. She’s more comfortable with me than going to a studio and it seems to work for now.
For our Christmas card, I’d tried the DIY party streamers backdrop, as seen here:
And here’s how it turned out for our Christmas card photo. Simple & sweet.
I took a look online for some more frugal background ideas for photos. Here are a few homemade backgrounds that I found in my search:
How cute do the doilies look with her dress??
Love the bright colors here. And it seems super easy. You could also try taping balloons, bows, and similar party supplies to make a festive background.
For this next one, I would just tape the paper chains to the wall (that’s how I did the streamers above) since I don’t have–nor want to make– a photo backdrop rack.
And again, I would tape the ribbons to the wall. As long as the material is light enough for transparent “magic” tape, I’ve never had a problem with damaging the paint when I peeled it off. You also only have the backdrop up for an hour at most, so that makes a difference in damage-control.
Do you DIY your holiday cards or family pictures? Do you have someone who takes your pictures year after year?

I agree–getting just the right photo for the Christmas card can be stressful. I haven’t really started wrapping presents either so you’re in good company! I love these backdrop ideas–thanks for sharing them!

Oh that fringe background is super fun! Pinning immediately! Thank you for linking up at the Found and Foraged linky party! We hope to see you again! AND just a heads up, we are partying one day early (Friday 8PM CT) because because InLinkz is doing maintenance right when our party normally goes live. So for one week only, the day is changing.

I made the tablecloth backdrop for my daughter’s baby shower. Except I used twine to hang the strips. Then added a balloon arch over it. Turned out great!
