Salted Caramel Blondies
These aren’t your run-of-the-mill blondies… (although those are pretty good too)… there is such much flavor going on here. Salty, sweet, caramel, vanilla, and so on.
It’s a pretty simple blondie recipe, you just add some caramel sauce and chopped almonds.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE CARAMEL BLONDIES:
for blondies:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
- 2 cups light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- sea salt, for topping
- Optional: ¼ cup, chopped almonds (can also save a Tablespoon to top frosting)
for frosting:
- ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter, softened
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
HOW TO MAKE CARAMEL BLONDIES:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9-inch square baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.
- Place the melted butter in a large bowl and whisk in the brown sugar until completely mixed. Add the eggs and vanilla extract and whisk to combine.
- Add the flour mixture and mix well.
- Pour batter into pan. Top with sea salt.
- Bake the blondies for about 25-30 mins or until the top is golden brown.
- Allow to cool.
- In a mixer, blend together butter and cream cheese.
- Add vanilla extract and powdered sugar, blend until smooth.
- Cut blondies into squares and top with frosting and more almond pieces, if desired.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
Brown sugar and butter, it’s a beautiful thing. Makes for a thick batter, which makes for a dense blondie.
Slather some cream cheese frosting on the top, and it’s amazing.
