Is the butter cut up into pieces or just toss the two sticks in? I ve made a few dump cakes and usually the cold butter is cut up and placed on top of dry cake mix. I like some fresh apples along with the canned pie filling – I may try I can of filling and a few chopped tart apples- Granny Smith and honey crisp are good suggestions.
Thank you.

Either way works! And I love the idea of the fresh apples and a can of filling. Some people just like the convenience of the canned filling.
